Youth Retreat & Lock-in!

District Youth Retreat

Every year the Farmville District youth ministries hosts a district wide retreat for our middle and high schoolers.  This year, the district has teamed up with the Lynchburg and Danville districts for a Tri-District Youth Retreat!  It's going to be a great weekend you won't want to miss!!!  This year it will be March 7-9th at Eagle Eyrie in Lynchburg...a definite favorite location among the youth.  The cost is only $95 for the weekend (they decided to extend the early bird price) and money and forms are due to me (Lyndsie) no later than March 2nd.  More information and registration forms can be found on the retreat website at http://fusionretreat.org.
Youth Lock-in

You've been asking for it...here it is!!!  We will have a youth lock in at the church on March 14th starting at 8pm and going through March 15th at 9:30am.  Come for a night of games, food, movies and fellowship with your friends.  The United Methodist Women will be providing us breakfast before we head home the morning of the 15th!  Please let me know if you plan on attending so I can plan accordingly.

Super Bowl Party!

We had a blast hanging out, eating food and watching the Super Bowl on Sunday night!

In other news, we have 14 signed up for our summer mission trip to Project SPY on July 26-August 1!!!  It is going to be a wonderful mission to help rebuild homes in the Christiansburg, VA area.  We need all the help we can get in fundraising to help send all 14 of us on this mission trip.  Your support and prayers are so appreciated.  If you would like to make a contribution toward this trip, you can make a check out to Farmville United Methodist Church with "Youth Mission Trip" in the memo line!  Oh, and don't forget to pick up your Chocolate Covered Strawberries this Sunday if you ordered some!

Snow Days & Discipleship

With all the snow and school closings last week, we had a fun snow day at the church for all the youth. We played games, hung out and watched a movie!

On Sunday night, we continued our conversation about what it means to a Disciple of Jesus Christ.  We are often told to "try harder" with things in our lives...whether it's school or sports or something else.  In our lives, God calls us to not just try harder, but to give our all.  We looked at two stories in the Bible, one from Matthew and one from Luke, about women who came and anointed Jesus.  One washed his feet with her tears, dried his feet with her hair and anointed him with perfume.  The other anointed him with costly oil.  These were risky moves for these women, but important ones.  They understood what it meant to truly seek a relationship with Jesus and to follow him.  They gave everything they had without hesitation.  God calls us to do the same!  How will you seek to deepen your relationship with Christ?  What steps will you take to become a more faithful disciple of Jesus?

We also played a fun new game called Wink'um!

See you this Sunday, February 2nd, for our SUPER BOWL PARTY!  It will be at the church (*note: this is a change) from 6-9pm.  RSVP to Lyndsie so I can order enough pizza, and bring a snack to share!

A Life Giving Christmas

This past Sunday we talked about JOY!  We discussed the ways we can share the joy God has given us with others, especially during this holiday season.  And what better way to live into joy than to spend time in fellowship with one another playing Christmas games?  So games were played:

Also, there are lots of great things going on in the next few weeks that I wanted to make sure you were aware of!

Connections: FUSION Gathering (aka Youth Group) will meet at our Connections Sunday night discipleship this Sunday, December 22nd as we finish our Advent study, "A Life-Giving Christmas".  Join us at 5:45pm in the fellowship room for coffee and dessert, then youth group in the youth suite from 6-7:30pm.  ***Please note: There will be NO CONNECTIONS on Sunday, December 29th.

Caroling: Please join us tonight, Tuesday, December 17th at Brookview Assisted Living at 6pm for caroling to the residents in the dining room.  We will carol for about 30 minutes as Sarah Critzer accompanies us on the piano, and lyrics will be provided!  Wear something festive!

Also, you are invited to join us on Sunday, December 22nd at the Wall's house at 1109 High Street at 3:45pm for caroling through the Avenues.  Dress warm!

Christmas Card Delivery Service:  Don't forget about our Youth Mission Trip fundraiser that is going on right now!  We've already raised $105 and are hoping to raise at least enough for one youth to attend the mission trip ($325) during this first fundraiser.

Spontaneous Christmas Pageant:  Our 5:30pm Christmas Eve service needs your help!!!  I need youth to help with the Scripture readings and lighting of the Advent wreath.  If you can serve in this way, please let me know!

Youth Ushers:  The youth are scheduled to usher for our 11am worship service on December 29th!  Please let me know if you are available to serve in this way.

Youth Mission Trip:  Don't forget to make your plans to attend this summer's youth mission trip to Project SPY in Christiansburg, VA!  The registration deadline is January 31st!
